Rediscovering or Reinventing? Joseph Puleo and the Solfeggio Frequency Narrative
Joseph S. Puleo is the figure most often credited with the “rediscovery” of the modern Solfeggio frequencies. In the narrative that he and Leonard Horowitz popularized, Puleo was not presented as a conventional musicologist but as a practitioner and Bible scholar who in the 1970s used a numerological procedure (often described as a Pythagorean or “number-reduction” method) on a passage in the Old Testament — specifically Numbers chapter 7 — and interpreted the resulting numerical pattern as a code that could be converted into musical tones.
